This month, my favourite iPhone app is Shades: A Simple Puzzle Game by UOVO.
Described on the itunes App Store as ‘A mesmerizing, calming, zen-like experience that quickly evolves into a devishly challenging puzzler.’
The goal of this game is to score the highest amount of points by stacking blocks on top of each other or in a line to be absorbed.
Lighter blocks (such as the tan coloured block pictured on the far left) are best placed on the same coloured blocks or darker coloured blocks, where they melt down and form a darker coloured block.
The game ends when blocks pile up to the top of the screen.
A cool feature of this app is the choice of colours you can play with, including shades of green, blue, pink and yellow. You can choose between three levels, easy, medium and hard. The speed of the blocks dropping is according to the level of difficulty.
This game is great for ages 4+.
My only criticism about this app is the lack of lives. Had I been given lives to run out of, I would have actually done something with my day instead of playing Shades for hours on end. It’s that addicting!
